Vanessa Herrera joined NBC 7 San Diego in November 2013 as a freelance general assignment multi-media journalist.
In December 2014 she was added to the weather team and can be seen forecasting 'Accuracy You Count On' every weekend at 6 and 11pm.
You can see her news reports, most of which she shot and edited herself, weekdays at 4, 5 or 6pm.
In July 2015 Vanessa also became the fill-in news and weather anchor weekend mornings making her the only female talent in the San Diego market who anchors news and weather, plus shoots, writes and edits her own stories.
Before joining NBC San Diego, Vanessa was the news operations manager and multi-media journalist for KECY-TV Fox 9 and ABC 5 News in Yuma. In addition to managing the news team's day to day tasks, Vanessa would find, shoot and edit her own stories. She often shot her own live shots on the portable unit Dejero.
Vanessa was the first local reporter to crawl inside a drug tunnel DEA agents called the most sophisticated one ever found in Arizona. She also took to the skies multiple times covering the Blue Angels, military flight trainings for MCAS Yuma, and when a WWII B-17 made a special visit to Yuma.
Before Yuma, Vanessa was a freelance general assignment reporter for KBAK and KBFX Eyewitness News in Bakersfield the summer after graduating college in May 2011.
Vanessa graduated from California State University San Marcos with a B.A. in Communication. She also attended the University of Virginia's Semester at Sea program where she studied various forms of the media in the Mediterranean.
Vanessa is a true San Diegan, raised in the Southbay, and proud of her Mexican heritage. To further her Spanish speaking skills, Vanessa's parents enrolled her in a private elementary school in Tijuana where she often spent her recess breaks teaching her classmates the English language. In her spare time growing up, she was often hanging out on her parent's ranch in the Tijuana River Valley. She spent many weekends showing horses competitively across San Diego County.
Now in her spare time, you'll likely find her in the kitchen trying a new recipe she found on Pinterest, taking a random trip with her husband to a place they've never seen, or out-and-about with her Australian Cattle Dog by her side. She and her husband hope to adopt children someday.
Vanessa loves hearing from viewers so be sure to follow her on all social media platforms.
